Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has outlined the reasons why Thiago Silva did not travel with the team in midweek.
The Blues are set to take on Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League group stages away from home on Tuesday night.
Silva, who has played in all the club's Premier League games so far this season, will not be involved in the contest.
"We decided with Thiago that he will have a break from the travelling and the stress after playing every minute so far in very intense matches," Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference on Monday.
"It was the moment to give him a break instead of putting him on the bench and having the travel issues. He takes care of his recovery."
