Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly told his players they were "embarrassing" as he spent an hour in the home dressing room after defeat at home to Brighton.
The American was seen rowing with fans from his executive during the game before he crossed the pitch after the final whistle to visit the home locker room.
After listening to manager Frank Lampard's debrief, Boehly addressed the players, says the Telegraph.
Boehly told the team their recent performances had been "embarrassing" while stating he had spent 600m to build a winning side and they had not lived up to expectations.
However, he also sought to lift spirits, urging the players to focus on upsetting Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal.
Chelsea must overcome a 2-0 deficit after their first-leg defeat in Madrid.
