Chelsea defender Thiago Silva believes the present voting for FIFA Best Men's Player is flawed.
While Lionel Messi won the award and most would not complain about that fact, Silva was pointing to other issues.
He highlighted how Manchester City and Argentina youngster Julian Alvarez came seventh, ahead of stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Robert Lewandowski.
Responding on social media, Silva wrote: "It's a joke" to Alvarez being so high on the list.
Alvarez's international teammate Messi defended him, stating: "During the whole World Cup, he was extraordinary.
"He ran everything. He fought for everything - creating chances, fighting.
For us, he was the surprising discovery, and he deserves everything that has happened to him because he is a lovely guy."
