Chelsea made an attempt to beat Tottenham to the signing of Richarlison this summer, it has been revealed.

According to Fabrizio Romano, that right after Antonio Conte's side agreed a deal with Everton, Chelsea made an offer of their own to sign the Brazil international.

He told the Here We Go Podcast: “The night before Richarlison had his medical in Brazil to join Tottenham and then sign his contract as new Tottenham players, Chelsea submitted a bid to Everton.

“It was an important bid also including potentially some players, but Everton said no because they already had an agreement with Tottenham for a higher bid.

“Also, I can reveal to you that Thiago Silva was trying to send some messages to Richarlison to understand how advanced the deal with Tottenham was and if he had some chance to sign for Chelsea, but it was too late.

“But Chelsea really wanted to hijack the Richarlison deal."
