New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wanted to sign Erling Haaland before his move to Manchester City, it has been revealed.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Boehly was desperate to sign Haaland as he prepared to leave Borussia Dortmund - but missed out due to Chelsea's protracted takeover.

Romano said: “There is one club that has the regret for the Erling Haaland and this club is Chelsea.

“Todd Boehly was not in charge was Haaland was sold to Manchester City. The agreement was almost ready end of April, Chelsea were in a difficult period with sanctions, owners around the club.

"So, Chelsea missed the opportunity. Chelsea regret is that Todd Boehly wanted to jump in for the signing, but the timing made it impossible."
