Chelsea’s record £262.4 million pre-tax loss sets a new Premier League high, despite the club remaining compliant with financial rules.
CHELSEA Football Club has announced a Premier League record pre-tax loss of £262.4 million for the year ending June 30, 2025.
This staggering figure surpasses the previous high of £197.5 million set by Manchester City in the 2010/11 season, marking a dramatic reversal from the £128.4 million profit Chelsea posted the previous year.
The club attributed the losses partly to increased operating costs during the 2024/25 period compared to the prior year.
Revenue for the period was a robust £490.9 million, the second-highest in the club’s history and bolstered by prize money from winning the Club World Cup.
Chelsea confirmed they were deemed compliant with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules for the three-year period ending 2024/25, which allow for maximum losses of £105 million over three years after certain allowable deductions.
The announcement follows last month’s admission by the club that it breached Premier League rules regarding approximately £47.5 million in undisclosed payments made under former owner Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea were subsequently fined £10.75 million and handed a suspended one-year transfer ban, but avoided a points deduction due to their new owners’ self-reporting and “exceptional co-operation”.
Separately, the club’s dominant women’s team, champions of the Women’s Super League for three consecutive seasons, also posted a loss of £17.1 million despite generating £21.3 million in revenue.
