Former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards continues to be linked with Chelsea.

The i says Edwards has a 'longstanding relationship' with new Chelsea board member Daniel Finkelstein.

Edwards left Liverpool towards the end of last season.

New Blues owner Todd Boehly will be involved in the activity completed in the market during the current window, though the long-term aim is to mirror a system in place at Anfield.

Sources have likened the new process to that of Liverpool's recruitment drive under Edwards' stewardship, which has provided manager Jurgen Klopp the power to declare the profile of player he is interested in acquiring.

It is added Chelsea's 'primary focus' is redefining the structure of the club in the post-Abramovich era, with a move towards analytics and an emphasis on youth.
