Chelsea are set to announce the appointment of manager Mauricio Pochettino this week.
The Argentine has been in talks with Chelsea directors over the past fortnight and spent time with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali in California last week.
The Athletic says a "comprehensive search" for a new manager was carried out by sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, with it due to be finalised in the next few days.
Boehly is happy with the choice of Pochettino and he will be confirmed by the end of the week.
However, Frank Lampard will remain in caretaker charge to the end of the season.
