Mention cherry blossom season and immediately one will think of Japan but, did you know there are other countries who have this sweet and delicate flower in full bloom too? Here are 5 countries to visit for cherry blossom season.

Parc de Sceaux, France

About nine and half kilometres south of Paris are two seperate cherry tree orchards. One, with all pink blossomed trees and the other with 150 all white blossomed trees. Late April is when one may expect the flowers to be in full bloom so a day trip there is a must. Don’t forget to bring your recording device of choice.

Longwangtang Cherry Blossom Park, China

Located in the small port city of Dalian, the blossoms here bloom usually around late April. With the oldest of China’s cherry blossom trees dating back to the WWII era, these delicate wonders were planted during the Japanese occupation of China between 1937 to 1945. The area isn’t much to look at but come blooming season and the dam is lined with beautiful pink and white blooms.

Jerte Valley, Spain

Spain’s Jerte Valley is covered in some two million all white cherry blossom trees. While in full bloom, the hilly area looks like it has been covered in a thick blanket of snow making for a wondrous sight outside of the city. A sort of magic fills the air in this faux-winter wonderland so do check it out around the middle of March.

Amsterdamse Bos, Netherlands

Take a stroll with family and friends in early April through Amsterdamse Bos park when it hosts its’ annual cherry blossom festival. Four hundred cherry blossom trees were gifted by the Japan’s Women Club in the year 2000 to celebrate each year of ties between the two countries. Their dedicated section of the park is found in Kersenbloesempark and it is the only cherry blossom park where the trees were individually named. Two hundred have female Japanese names while the other two hundred trees were given female Dutch names.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden, New York

The Brookly Botanic Garden throws an annual cherry blossom festival called Sakura Matsuri usually during the last weekend of April. If it is impossible to make it during that time, fret not as the Botanic Garden is home to 42 species of cherry blossoms and each take turns to bloom between late-March to mid-May. And even if that time frame does not work out, the Botanic Gardens is a must-see no matter the time of year except for winter. It is also wildly famous for their vibrant tulips in Spring.
