Chief justice eyes AI, cybersecurity tools

CHIEF Justice Alexander Gesmundo led a Supreme Court delegation to the United States to explore next-generation cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions that could strengthen the judiciary’s digital infrastructure and protect its growing online services.

The delegation visited the headquarters of global cybersecurity and networking company Fortinet in Sunnyvale, California, on Sept. 29 and 30.

The Supreme Court is accelerating its digital transformation under the Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations 2022-2027.

The delegation presented updates on the judiciary’s digitalization agenda and its plans for building more efficient and future-ready judicial services.

Fortinet officials briefed the delegation on developments in network security, threat intelligence, cloud security and centralized security management, as well as emerging technologies designed to protect large organizations from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

Particular attention was given to AI-enabled security solutions and quantum-ready cybersecurity strategies.

The discussions allowed the Supreme Court officials to examine cybersecurity technologies and institutional practices that could be applied to protect the Judiciary’s information systems and digital court services.

The delegation included Associate Justices Raul Villanueva and Jose Midas Marquez, Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief Technology Officer Jed Sherwin Uy, and other court officials and personnel.

The visit to Fortinet underscores a growing challenge for the Judiciary: as more court processes and services move online, protecting judicial data and digital systems becomes increasingly critical.
