Kota Kinabalu: The organising committee of the Sabah Chinese Economic Conference led by event chairman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee and organising chairman Datuk Philip Yong, paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Hajiji commended the organising committee on the success of the event, adding that he would study the recommendations presented and take necessary actions to accelerate economic growth in Sabah.

Themed “New Starting Point, New Mindset”, the conference that took place at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Aug 23 was officiated by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who represented Hajiji at the opening ceremony.

The event was jointly organised by six local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) - Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC), Sabah Maritime Silk Route Research and Advancement Society, Malaysia Maritime Silk Route Research Society, Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Sabah (SME Sabah), Sabah Association of Tours and Travel Agents (Satta) and the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (Sabah branch).

Read more During the courtesy call, Yong informed Hajiji that the conference received overwhelming response with more than 150 foreign dignitaries from China, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Peninsula and Sarawak, as well as 650 local business leaders from various industries.

The conference also saw the inking of 12 agreements of collaboration, including on drone system technology, AI, sustainable technology, activated carbon industry, promotion of local music as a tourism product and solar energy.

Also present were Shenzhen Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Industry Association chairman Yang Jincai, Global Union for Tshung Tsin & Hakka Associations acting chief executive officer Tsang Kwun To, SCCC president Datuk Frankie Liew, Satta president Datuk Seri Winston Liaw, Malaysia Maritime Silk Route Research Society president Prof Datuk Dr Wilson Yong Tung Yung, SME Sabah president Datuk Foo Ngee Kee and MCCC Sabah branch president Michael Chin.
