Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor expressed satisfaction with the progress of the 20.8km Serusop-Pinturu road project under the Pan Borneo Highway here.
“I visited the work site today and I am pleased with the progress, which is ahead of schedule,” he said after inspecting one of the road sections at Kampung Penimbawan, Wednesday.
The RM465 million road construction, which began on Jan 20, is expected to be completed by July 19, 2028.
The project involves the construction of a single-carriageway road linking Tuaran and Kota Belud, including a 682-metre bridge.
During the visit, the Chief Minister was briefed by State Public Works Director Datuk Philemon Lajawai and his officers.
Meanwhile, Hajiji called on Jetama Sdn Bhd to expand its solar-powered nano-filtration drinking water system to more interior areas.
“This system, developed by Jetama, is commendable as it can supply treated water from tube wells to locations where clean water is otherwise inaccessible,” he said after visiting the newly installed facility at Kampung Baru-Baru.
He said the residents of Kampung Baru-Baru had never enjoyed treated water supply before, as the village is located far from the main distribution network.
“I thank Jetama for installing this facility here,” he added.
Hajiji noted that the system, which uses solar power or a battery bank to operate the water treatment process, is particularly suitable for rural and remote areas, including islands in Sabah.
“I have asked Jetama to consider installing this system in more remote villages,” he said.
Costing about RM1.2 million, the self-powered mobile drinking water system has the capacity to produce 30,000 litres of treated water daily.
It is equipped with sensors and controllers to monitor water quality and system performance, adjusting operations as needed.
The treated water is stored in tanks and distributed to households via pipes or other distribution systems.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister III cum Works Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya and Jetama Chairman Datuk Yusuff Manan.
