THE Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will be expanding its Child Protection Advocacy Programme, KASIH Kanak-Kanak, to both rural and urban schools across Malaysia this year, according to Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
She explained that the programme aims not only to increase awareness about child abuse and neglect among students, but also to educate the broader community.
“It also targets adults, helping them understand various forms of abuse, not just physical harm. Furthermore, children will learn to recognise domestic abuse signs and be encouraged to report incidents through the appropriate channels,” she said after launching the Sarawak-level 2025 KASIH Kanak-Kanak Child Protection Advocacy Programme in Lundu, Sarawak.
Earlier reports indicated that the Ministry, through the Social Welfare Department, would continue the programme in 300 schools and 30 Children’s Activity Centres nationwide this year.
Nancy further urged the public to memorise the Talian Kasih helpline, available 24/7 via a toll-free line at 15999 and through WhatsApp at 019-2615999, for immediate reporting of abuse cases.
"It is a collective responsibility. If we suspect a case of abuse involving someone close to us, we must immediately contact Talian Kasih so that counsellors can take appropriate action," she added. - May 19, 2025
