A Facebook user has recently taken to social media to condemn a children's cosplay competition held at a local school. The post has gotten 900 reactions and 1.8k shares went viral on Facebook. The user wrote in his caption that “The pictures I screenshot from the page of the school itself. If it is about Palestine, the non-Muslims (kafirs) oppose it. Not only do they oppose, they even ask the authorities to take action against those who are involved. What about this haa?” He attempts to call out the double standards of fellow Malaysians for condemning the use of replica weapons and outfits in Palestine Solidarity Week as seen in this viral video but not the children's cosplay competition. It is also worth mentioning that the Education Ministry has also condemned the use of replica weapons especially toy guns and said that it also prohibited the use of icons and symbols in a “provocative and confrontational” manner.

Many people in the comment section tagged major media outlets such as NST Online, BERNAMA, Malaysiakini to report on this issue and not display the alleged “double standard” held by the media when it comes to the use of replica weapons and Palestine Solidarity Week. Others have tagged Nga Kor Ming and Anthony Loke Siew Fook as both of them have expressed disapproval towards the use of replica weapons by teachers and students as part of a school activity that was aimed to demonstrate solidarity with Palestine. “School is not a place for conflict, extremism and violence. Instead, a sense of humanity and love for peace need to be cultivated. Those who are responsible and abuse their power (in this regard) must face disciplinary action”, says Nga Kor Ming on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Meanwhile on forums such as Reddit, many have expressed support for the cosplay competition held at the school and have criticized the Facebook user for condemning the competition. “I don't see how this cosplay is political. Only these morons could be triggered” says ItsImNotAnonymous. “You must be lurus (referring to the BM word ‘lurus bendul’) and daft if you don't see the difference between the two. Context matters!” says Negarakuku. Many on Reddit are saying that the Facebook user is comparing apples to oranges.
What do you think of the entire issue? Is it comparing apples to oranges or is it not? Let me know in the comments.
