The Paris 2024 Olympics is over but the heat is still on. The United States of America is ranked #1 with the most medals achieved (126), followed by China with a total of 91 medals in the record, as shown via the Olympic’s official website.
Despite having the same number of gold medals, the United States has 44 silver medals and 42 bronze medals, more than China’s 27 silver medals and 24 bronze medals.
A netizen from China, however, is NOT happy with the results and believes that China should’ve been the champion and not the USA. So, guess what he did?
He came up with a self-calculated result and put China at the top of the list, making China seemingly the champion of the Paris Olympics!
The netizen shared the “new result” on Weibo, with the scores from Hong Kong and Taiwan now under China, which he said “should’ve been the way.”
In the “latest result”, China is now ranked #1 for having the most gold medals. In terms of the total number of medals, however, China still only has 102 medals while the USA has 126 medals.
Hong Kong scored 2 gold medals and 2 bronze medals, while Taiwan secured 2 gold medals and 5 bronze medals. Because of this, the netizen highlighted that China has scored more gold medals than the USA, and he believed that the Olympics should’ve included the gold medals of Hong Kong and Taiwan in China’s total gold medals.
If Hong Kong and Taiwan’s gold medals were included under China, the country would’ve had more gold medals (44) than the USA (40).
The netizen also reminded the media in China not to give too much limelight to the USA.
“In order to rank themselves first, Americans have always emphasized the medal list. But, the Chinese media is spineless that you don’t even have the courage to correct the medal list! China is first!” the unhappy netizen remarked.
A quick recap of Malaysia’s achievements in the Paris Olympics
As per the Olympic official website, Malaysia is ranked #80 in the overall results of the medal rankings, with 2 bronze medals brought home, thanks to badminton players Lee Zii Jia, Aaron Chia, and Soh Wooi Yik.
Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan were defeated by Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan in the bronze medal match.
In weightlifting, Aniq Kasdan narrowly lost to Hampton Morris of the United States in the men’s 61 KG event.
In cycling, Pocket Rocketman Azizulhasni Awang was disqualified from the Keirin event, before the last Malaysian representative, Shah Firdaus Shahrom suffered a crash with Japanese cyclist, Shinji Nakano.
Regardless, Malaysian athletes have done their best in the Paris Olympics and we cannot thank them enough for their contributions and efforts!
