China is eager to collaborate with Malaysia, using the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations as a new beginning to align development strategies, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and enhance cultural exchanges, stated Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Li, currently on a three-day official visit to Malaysia, expressed China's commitment to fostering a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, contributing to regional and global peace, stability, development, and prosperity.
"At present, China is advancing Chinese modernisation on all fronts through high-quality development. Simultaneously, Malaysia is pursuing national development under the vision of Malaysia Madani. China is prepared to work alongside Malaysia," Li remarked in his arrival statement, which was shared with Bernama upon his arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on June 18.
This visit marks Li's first trip to Malaysia since he assumed his role in March of the previous year.
His visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, established by the signing of the Joint Communiqué between Malaysia’s second prime minister, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, and then-Chinese Premier Chou En Lai on May 31, 1974.
Reflecting on the past 50 years, Li noted that China-Malaysia relations have consistently grown, marked by strategic mutual trust, enhanced cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and significant achievements in high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
"Malaysia is a prominent emerging economy in Asia, a key ASEAN member, and a vital force for regional prosperity and stability," Li highlighted.
He further emphasized that the flourishing China-Malaysia relations have delivered substantial benefits to both nations' peoples and positively impacted regional peace and development.
Li expressed his pleasure in visiting Malaysia at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations.
"On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I extend warm greetings and best wishes to the Malaysian government and people," Li conveyed.
He recalled that last year, President Xi Jinping and Anwar reached significant agreements on building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, marking a new era in bilateral relations.
During his current visit, Li anticipates meeting with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for comprehensive discussions on building a shared future community and deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation.
"I will also participate in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations and the Year of China-Malaysia Friendship," Li concluded.
