The Chinese Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Donald Trump will visit China from Wednesday to Friday at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, marking the first visit to the country by a US president since 2017.
Trump himself had previously announced the visit. China only confirmed the state visit shortly before its start, as is customary in such cases.
Trump had originally planned to travel to China at the end of March, but Washington asked Beijing to postpone the visit by a few weeks, citing its conflict with Tehran.
Trump and Xi last met in South Korea in October on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. The two largest economies are locked in a major trade conflict.
