China confirms receiving a US invitation to join Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’, a panel originally for Gaza but with a potentially broader mandate.
BEIJING: China has confirmed it received an invitation from the United States to join President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace”.
Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated “China has received the United States’ invitation” during a regular news briefing on Tuesday.
He did not specify whether Beijing would accept the invitation to join the panel.
The board was originally conceived to oversee the rebuilding of war-torn Gaza.
Its charter, however, does not appear to limit its role solely to the occupied Palestinian territory.
Washington has asked various global leaders to sit on the board, which is to be chaired by Trump.
Reported invitees include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Commenting on bilateral relations, Guo said China-US ties had achieved overall stability in the past year.
This assessment comes despite an ongoing trade war featuring tit-for-tat tariffs.
“Over the past year, China-US relations have experienced ups and downs, but have maintained overall dynamic stability,” Guo told reporters.
He added that “cooperation between China and the US benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both.”
