China reaffirms its commitment to the UN-led international order after receiving an invitation to join the US-proposed ‘Board of Peace’ conflict resolution body.

BEIJING: China has pledged to defend the international system with the United Nations at its core.

The statement came a day after Beijing confirmed it received a US invitation to join President Donald Trump’s proposed ‘Board of Peace’.

Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun addressed the matter at a news conference.

“No matter how the international situation changes, China firmly upholds the international system with the United Nations at its core,” Guo said.

He added China supports international relations based on the objectives and principles of the UN Charter.

Beijing confirmed the invitation on Tuesday, according to the board’s charter seen by AFP.

The board is aimed at resolving international conflicts.

China has not yet confirmed whether it will accept the invitation to join.

As the world’s second-largest economy and a permanent UN Security Council member, China traditionally defends the UN system.

It also consistently calls for reforms within the global body.
