SEMPORNA: A 66-year-old female tourist from China drowned while snorkeling off Pulau Pom Pom here on Sunday.
District police chief Supt Tan Hiap Wah said the victim from Yunnan was snorkeling with family members when she complained of feeling unwell and requested to return to the boat around 12.30pm.
She was found unconscious upon boarding the vessel and failed to respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before being rushed to Semporna Hospital.
Tan said medical staff at the emergency ward confirmed her death, adding that the victim had a 10-year medical history of asthma.
Police are investigating the incident and urge witnesses or those with information to contact investigating officer ASP Mohammad Ali Amat at 013-2120852 or visit the nearest police station.
