
Kota Kinabalu: A joint exhibition of Chinese ink and oil paintings and calligraphy pieces by artists and calligraphers from Shanghai and Sabah, dubbed China-Sabah Art Exhibition, will be held at the Sabah Art Gallery from May 7 to 12.
This exhibition is held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia Diplomatic Ties.
Principal of the Shanghai Badaitou Painting and Calligraphy Institute, Prof Gu Benjian is leading his team from Shanghai. Participants include the professor himself, Sun Jianzhong, Xi Wenyuan, Xie Jianke, and Ye Shengqin.
Contemporary artist Florence Wong is the sole participant from Sabah. She focuses on abstract and semi-abstract art. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (Visual Communications) from Northern lllinois University in 1993, and has held several exhibitions on her assorted artworks.

State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew, who supports this artistic exchange between China and Sabah, will officially open the exhibition on May 8.
Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, HE Dr Huang Shifang will be the special guest.
Two workshops on Chinese ink painting and Chinese calligraphy will be held on May 9 and May 12, respectively.
