Chinese Man Fined & Jailed For Driving Against Traffic In Kedah, Dies Hours Later | WeirdKaya

A Chinese national who allegedly drove against the flow of traffic in Kuala Muda, Kedah last Sunday (Apr 26) was convicted of the crime at the Sungai Petani Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Apr 30).

However, hours after he was charged in court, he died at the hospital while receiving treatment for an undisclosed condition.

Appeared to be unwell

The accused, 55-year-old Lu Xun, was brought to court via a police van and was dressed in a t-shirt and sarong.

However, he appeared to be rather dazed and listless, and at one point was seen lying inside the van as police officers tried to escort him out from the vehicle.

After officers managed to get Lu out of the van, they wheeled him into the courtroom using a wheelchair.

Lu’s daughter, who was also present, was seen crying and tried to get close to her father but was stopped by a female officer.

Sentence

According to NST, Lu,  a company director who lived in Malaysia for about 30 years, was accused of driving against the flow of traffic along Jalan Lencongan Barat before hitting another car at 9.20pm.

Lu sustained injuries to his face and was treated at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani. However, police say he refused to provide a blood sample when requested.

He was subsequently sentenced to a day in jail and fined RM10,000 under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving.

Lu’s driving license was also suspended for two years and he was ordered to also to be jailed for 12 months if he failed to pay the fine.

Dies at hospital

Not long after court proceedings ended, Lu was taken to Pantai Hospital for treatment, where he died at 5.30pm.

His death was confirmed by Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan.

However, the cause of Lu’s passing has not been disclosed at the time of writing.
