SINGAPORE, Aug 26 — A suspected currency-counterfeiting plot was reportedly uncovered after a fake S$100 (RM317) note was found among S$150,000 that a man was trying to deposit into his Marina Bay Sands Casino account.
The Straits Times, citing police, reported that a cashier raised the alarm after allegedly noticing the word “COPY” printed on the note at about 3.50am on August 24.
Officers reportedly escorted the 33-year-old Chinese national to his hotel room, where a 25-year-old Chinese woman was allegedly seen leaving with a printer.
A subsequent search reportedly found 121 more counterfeit S$100 notes in the woman’s possession, along with ink, paper and a paper cutter.
The pair are set to be charged today over an alleged conspiracy to counterfeit Singapore currency notes.
They could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine if convicted.
