Chinese national pleads not guilty to stabbing ex-girlfriend in the neck

A CHINESE national studying at a private university pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of grievously injuring his ex-girlfriend by stabbing her in the neck.

You Wei, 22, entered the plea before Judge Norazlin Othman after the charge was read in English by the court interpreter.

The accused is alleged to have intentionally caused grievous hurt to the woman, also a Chinese national and his former partner, by stabbing the left side of her neck with a knife.

The incident is said to have occurred on the second floor of a private university in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya, at approximately 6.30pm on 14 July.

The charge was framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and may include a fine or whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal informed the court that no bail would be offered.

However, defence counsel Revin Kumar appealed for bail to be granted at the court’s discretion, noting that the accused had cooperated fully with the investigation and was willing to comply with additional conditions.

“The accused is currently receiving treatment for bipolar disorder and is taking prescribed medication from a private clinic. He is prepared to surrender his passport and report regularly to the police as required,” said the lawyer.

The court subsequently granted bail of RM20,000 with two sureties, and imposed several conditions, including the surrender of the accused’s passport, mandatory reporting to a nearby police station, and a directive not to contact the victim or prosecution witnesses.

The case has been fixed for mention on 17 September. - July 21, 2025
