SIBU: A 42-year-old Chinese national has been remanded for four days starting Monday to assist in investigations into a fatal road crash that claimed the life of Sabah State Court Director Marutin Pagan, Borneo Post reported.

Sibu Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed the remand, saying it was necessary to facilitate the probe under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The crash occurred on March 30 at the Kanowit roundabout along Jalan Kanowit/Julau/Durin and involved two sports utility vehicles (SUVs).

Marutin, who was among five people in an SUV driven by a 28-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle and suffering severe head injuries.

The Chinese national, who was driving the other SUV, was uninjured, while four others sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Kanowit Hospital.
