TAWAU: Police here arrested two Chinese nationals who allegedly sent a false bomb threat to force an airline to change their flight tickets.
District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspects, a 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were detained in Semporna after investigations traced the fake message—sent via AirAsia’s chat system—to their booking.
The suspects admitted to sending the hoax after reading online claims that such tactics could speed up responses from airlines.
Police seized a mobile phone used in the act, and the case is being investigated under the Penal Code and Communications and Multimedia Act.
