
SEMPORNA: One person was injured, another suffered trauma and 17 others – including China nationals – escaped unhurt when a lorry and tour bus collided near Lepa Roundabout along Jalan Semporna-Tawau, Thursday.
It was learnt that 17 people comprising two drivers and 15 tourists from China – 12 men and five women – were travelling in the bus when the incident occurred at noon.
State Fire and Rescue Department’s spokesperson said it received a distress call following the incident at 12.01pm via MERS999.
A team of Fire and Rescue personnel in a fire engine and EMRS vehicle from Semporna Fire and Rescue station were deployed to the scene 25km away. A total of 19 individuals were involved in the incident.
“The lorry driver was trapped inside the vehicle and freed by the team before taken to the hospital by ambulance.
“The tour bus driver who suffered trauma was sent to hospital by member of public,” said the department. The lorry’s passenger as well as another driver of the tour bus and 15 passengers escaped unhurt.
In TENOM, 12 people were injured when the Toyota Hilux they were travelling skidded and overturned into a ditch at Kemabong-Tenom road, Wednesday evening.
The victims involved six adult men, two adult women, three boys and one girl who were sent to the hospital using an ambulance and a civilian vehicle.
The District Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 6.03pm and eight members led by Operations Officer, Soany Saimin rushed to the location with machinery.
