Doctors at a hospital in China were shocked when a 40-year-old woman came in and had to get almost 100 gallstones removed from her gallbladder.

According to China Press, she had a total of 95 gallstones, which were linked to her long-time habit of skipping breakfast.

She developed an unhealthy habit of snacking at night

Over the past 10 years, the woman got used to inviting her sisters over for supper after finishing her late shifts.

She also had a habit of sleeping in until noon every day, which caused her to skip breakfast and only eat her first meal around brunch.

Because of these unhealthy habits, she often experienced stomach discomfort, which eventually made her decide to see a doctor.

The chief surgeon who treated her said,

“I didn’t expect there to be so many stones. It’s actually pretty rare. Having this many stones is extremely risky. It’s like a water balloon filled with gravel. At any moment, it could block the bile duct or cause acute pancreatitis.”

Skipping breakfast can have dangerous consequences

It was reported that doctors warned that skipping breakfast regularly can lead to bile stasis and stone formation, which might block the bile duct or even trigger acute pancreatitis, both of which can be very dangerous.

Eating high-fat midnight snacks caused the gallbladder to go into overdrive and release bile, while skipping breakfast in the morning led to bile buildup. Over time, this caused cholesterol crystals to form and pile up like a snowball.
