The Immigration Department has successfully dismantled a passport forgery syndicate led by a Bangladeshi man who was operating out of a hotel in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur. The arrest took place during a special operation that began at 8:30 am yesterday. Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh reported that the 24-year-old Bangladeshi man, who was in Malaysia on a valid student pass, was apprehended in the initial phase of the operation.
Following the suspect's arrest and subsequent interrogation, the operations team raided his hotel room, uncovering a sophisticated passport-forging setup. The equipment seized included a laptop, a printer, and several passports. Specifically, authorities confiscated 37 Bangladeshi passports, two Indian passports, and six Indonesian passports, all believed to be counterfeit.
According to Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, the syndicate operated by offering forged passports to undocumented foreigners from Bangladesh, Nepal, India, and Indonesia. These counterfeit documents were then used to obtain various official documents from monitoring agencies and to facilitate foreign worker medical check-ups. The syndicate charged a fee ranging from RM100 to RM150 per passport, with the suspect reportedly producing between 50 and 100 forgeries daily.
The suspect is currently detained at the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966, and the Immigration Regulations 1963. The authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the forgery network and to identify other potential members involved in the syndicate.
Additionally, a local man has been issued a notice to appear at the Immigration office to assist with the ongoing investigation. The Immigration Department remains committed to cracking down on illegal activities and safeguarding the integrity of the country's immigration system. This recent bust underscores the department's vigilance and the effectiveness of its operations in combating illegal immigration and related crimes.
