KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Actor Chris Evans announced he will be taking time off social media on Thursday, before deactivating his Instagram and Twitter accounts.
"Hey everyone, I’m treating myself to a summer with less screen time so I’m taking a little break from Twitter and IG. See you soon! Much love!”, the 42-year-old tweeted.
Evans' move to go offline appeared to be inspired by Kingsman star Taron Edgerton’s social media detox announcement as he reposted Edgerton’s message on his own Instagram stories.
“I'm going to take a break from social media for a while,” Edgerton wrote.
“I'm not sure why I'm making a big declaration about it; I just think it's hard to break away from a cycle that I've grown to find a bit addictive and this is me making a commitment to myself.”
Edgerton added that he felt he lost the ability to ‘sit and be present’ to read books and watch movies, even not spending enough time with his loved ones.
“Thanks everyone for saying such nice things all the time; I so appreciate it but I just need to not read the thoughts of strangers for a while; I'm really not sure this stuff is very good for any of us.”
“Couldn’t have said it better myself!!! Count me in. Gonna take a little break. Much love everyone!” Evans wrote on Instagram in response.
The Avengers star was active on Instagram and Twitter primarily and outspoken about his political views.
