Chris Rock says Oscars controversy is 'not that important'

Chris Rock's clash with Will Smith at the Oscars is "not that important".
The 61-year-old comedian was struck by Will, 57, at the Oscars in 2022, after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Will's wife - but Chris insists he's moved on from the controversy.
The stand-up star told Variety: "It’s a crazy world. We walk by homeless people. There’s all sorts of s*** going on right now. Me having a bad day is not the biggest — it’s not that important."
Chris is also philosophical about his own success in life.
The comedian explained: "Showbiz has been very, very good to me.
"In a world where we have trillionaires, I don’t have that much money. But my dad got sick when I was poor, and my mother got sick when I had some money. Dad’s dead. My mom’s doing great. You know what I mean? It’s literally that simple. So I’m good. I’m really good."
Will resigned from the Academy after striking Chris at the Oscars in 2022.
The Hollywood star confronted Chris after he made a joke about his wife - but Will subsequently acknowledged that his behaviour was "shocking, painful, and inexcusable".
The movie star - who has been married to Jada since 1997, but the couple separated in 2016 - said in a statement: "My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable.
"The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy.
"I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.
"I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film."
