- Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike remains alive following a failed execution attempt at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, according to her defense attorney.
- The 50-year-old inmate survived on Wednesday after being given two doses of the lethal drug pentobarbital, according to her lawyers. Pike’s “right arm turned purple after the second round of chemicals put into her body,” her lawyer said.
- Her lawyers said they don’t know what happened between the time the curtain was closed after the second attempt and the ambulance arrived. It was unclear if she received any life-saving care in the execution room.
- She had been scheduled for execution at 10 a.m. Wednesday for the killing she committed at age 18, and would have been the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years.
- Her lawyers said they have not spoken to her or seen her in the hospital.
