TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco denied having any plans to seek an elected post, amid online claims linking her visibility in official materials to alleged political self-promotion.
“I do not have the ambition to run for any national position... I am not going to run, I am here to work,” Frasco said during a media briefing on Wednesday.
The issue surfaced after a private magazine featured her photograph, prompting accusations that the Department of Tourism (DOT) had used public relations machinery to advance her personal profile.
Frasco had rejected accusations of self-promotion, saying these were false and misleading.
She explained that her frequent appearance on DOT platforms stems from the agency’s reportorial function, noting that she has worked “nonstop” with stakeholders and regional offices since her appointment.
The DOT emphasized that its marketing platforms continue to focus on promoting Philippine destinations through its regional network and 12 foreign offices abroad.
The department warned that misrepresenting official actions and implying misuse of public resources undermines public trust, as Frasco reiterated that her role remains strictly focused on public service, not politics.
