Ciara Sotto takes on the role of Nellie Forbush in the restaging of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “South Pacific,” which will run from Sept. 12 to 20 at the Proscenium Theater at Rockwell Center in Makati City.
The production, staged by the UST Conservatory of Music as part of its 80th founding anniversary celebration, returns after its previous Philippine staging. Paolo O’Hara directs the production.
Sotto, a singer, actress and TV personality, stars opposite composer, music director and classical-contemporary vocal artist Jose Vera Perez, who plays Emile de Becque. The cast also includes Nenen Espina as Bloody Mary and Sean Nolasco as Lt. Cable.
The musical is set in the South Pacific during World War II and follows a story involving love and the challenges of prejudice. Its score includes songs such as “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Ha’i,” “Younger Than Springtime” and “Happy Talk.”
The production will feature the UST Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Daniel Bartolome.
