THE escape of Sen. Ronald dela Rosa from the Senate premises would not have been possible without the help of his good friend and fellow senator Robinhood Padilla, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police said on Thursday.
Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II said in a briefing at Camp Crame there was “indispensable cooperation” between the two senators. Padilla admitted giving dela Rosa a ride in his car in the early hours of May 14, shortly after the shooting incident, but insisted it was not because he was helping dela Rosa escape from authorities who were trying to serve him an arrest warrant.
He said he just wanted to bring dela Rosa to Makati City, where a car was waiting for him.
Monico refused to accept Padilla’s explanation. “Hindi po ’yun incidental (It wasn’t incidental). It’s not a mere hitchhike, it is well-planned, well-coordinated. May (There was a) backup vehicle,” Morico said.
