KUALA LUMPUR — A man known as “Cikgu Chandra” has been arrested over a Facebook post allegedly containing sensitive remarks deemed capable of disrupting public order.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the suspect was detained at 3pm yesterday, and a mobile phone was seized to assist with investigations.

Police earlier received a report from a man who had viewed a Facebook post uploaded by Cikgu Chandra at 10pm the previous night.

According to Fadil, the post allegedly described the Indian community as uncivilised and touched on the issue of “illegal temples”, remarks he said were inflammatory, insulting and hurtful, and made with the intention of disturbing public order.

“The statement had the potential to incite actions beyond the bounds of the law,” he said in a statement today.

Following the report, police arrested the suspect, who is believed to be responsible for the post, and confiscated a mobile phone suspected to have been used to upload the content that has since gone viral.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect admitted to uploading the post out of dissatisfaction and to attract attention from his followers on social media.

He has been taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Fadil urged the public to refrain from making statements or uploading sensitive content touching on 3R issues — race, religion and royalty — that could undermine public peace and security.

“Firm action will be taken against any individual who seeks to exploit such sentiments for popularity or to gain support from any party,” he said. - February 12, 2026
