PAPAR: The annual mass circumcision programme which has been running for 33 years here continues to receive strong support from the local community, which so far has benefitted almost 5,000 Muslim boys.

Pantai Manis Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) divisional head Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Ismail said the programme is aimed at pupils during school holidays and has the support from parents, teachers, and schools.

“This programme was informally initiated in 1993 where it was started in a masjid before being officially introduced as a mandatory annual programme in 1994 under Pantai Manis State seat when I was the then assemblyman until 2018. Read more “I saw the number of participants increasing yearly which prompted us to expand and organise a large-scale circumcision under the management of Pantai Manis level.

“To date, 4,719 boys have benefitted. We, as the organiser, contributed about RM150 per participant while giving donations to Persatuan Kebajikan Hospital Papar (Perkip) whose staff also have been helping us organise the programme,” he said.

“Many have succeeded in various fields. Some approached me and introduced themselves as former participants of the programme I organised since mid-1990s until 2018.
