Kota Kinabalu: Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (CIS) is investing RM120 million to build a second production line at its Teluk Sepanggar plant to boost overall output capacity and secure cement supplies across the State.
CIS general manager Sumardi Mohd Yusuf (pic) said in a statement on Thursday that the new line, which has received board approval, will add 550,000 metric tonnes annually and is expected to be fully operational by late 2028.
He said the second line will act as a critical backup system and provide additional raw material storage, ensuring the production and distribution of 50-kilogramme bagged cement remains uninterrupted during maintenance or technical disruptions.
Meanwhile, Sumardi said current 50kg cement supplies on the West Coast are facing slight disruptions after a vessel carrying about 20,000 metric tonnes of clinker ran aground near Tanjung Port in South Kalimantan.
A replacement shipment of the essential raw material is scheduled to arrive in the second week of October 2026 to restore normal operations and gradually stabilise the market.
