Employees of the Talwara Municipal Council (MC) continued their indefinite strike for the second consecutive day on Thursday in support of their pending demands.
The strike, which began on Wednesday following a call by the Municipal Action Committee Punjab, witnessed participation from sanitation workers, drivers, gardeners, sewadars, data entry operators, electricians and other municipal staff members.
The protesting employees staged a dharna outside the Municipal Council office and raised slogans against the Punjab Government and the administration. The employees alleged that despite launching an indefinite agitation over their genuine demands, the government had failed to respond positively.
The major demands of the employees include immediate regularisation of all contractual and temporary workers and an increase in salaries.
Employee leaders said the strike would continue until the government accepted their demands. They warned that sanitation and cleanliness work in the town would remain completely suspended during the agitation. The impact of the strike has already started affecting sanitation services and other civic works in Talwara.
Among those who addressed the protest gathering included Bikram Vicky, Vipin Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Sahil Malhotra, Varun Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Dalip Kumar, Rohit Thakur, Namita, Rachna, Lakhwinder Singh, Sunny Bhardwaj, Suresh Kumar, Gagan Singh, Nikunj Sharma, Rajpal, Ajay Kumar, Gurvinder Kaur, Neeraj and Tejwinder Singh, along with a large number of employees.
