Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a civil servant and a former chief executive officer for allegedly soliciting and receiving approximately RM18,000 in bribes to facilitate a company’s gold mining operations in Sabah.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah said the two male suspects, both in their 60s, were arrested around 10am on Wednesday after turning up to give their statements at the Sabah MACC office here.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both men allegedly conspired between 2024 and 2025 and are believed to have received the gratification in cash.
Mohd Fuad said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) and Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
The duo are scheduled to be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court on Sept 28.
