A SENIOR civil servant has been remanded for five days starting today on suspicion of abusing his position to manipulate several state land applications in Terengganu, allegedly for the benefit of his children.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) obtained the remand order from Magistrate Iffah Nabihah Mohd Ishak at the Kuala Terengganu Magistrates’ Court this morning.
According to the Terengganu MACC, the suspect, a man in his 50s, was arrested at 2pm yesterday when he appeared at the commission’s state headquarters to provide a statement.
Initial investigations suggest the suspect engaged in land misappropriation between 2019 and 2023. He is alleged to have altered land plans and handled related processes to secure government land in the state for personal and family use.
“In connection with the arrest, MACC has seized two land plots located in a Terengganu district, measuring approximately 9,000 and 6,000 square feet respectively, for investigation purposes,” said Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid when contacted.
The case is being investigated under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which deals with abuse of power for gratification. - July 14, 2025
