
Kiran Jyoti, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Tarn Taran, made a surprise visit to Central Jail, Sri Goindwal Sahib, on Wednesday. Manjit Singh Tiwana, jail superintendent, along with Jatinderpal Singh, deputy superintendent, Gurjant Singh, deputy superintendent, and jail staff accompanied the CJM.
The CJM listened to the problems of the inmates and prisoners and directed the jail superintendent to resolve them on the spot. She visited the barracks of the inmates and inspected their living conditions and cleanliness.
The CJM also checked the jail mess and reviewed its hygiene standards. She directed the jail superintendent to ensure regular medical check-ups of the inmates.
She informed the inmates about their legal rights and explained when and within what period they can file appeals in the court. She also encouraged them to live a normal life after their release and to avoid returning to jail by refraining from wrongdoing.
