Clarkson’s Farm star warns of potential UK beer shortages

  • Lisa Hogan, partner of Jeremy Clarkson, has warned of potential UK beer shortages after extreme weather led to a poor barley harvest.
  • “I think a lot of barley farmers suffered, so that’s less beer all around,” Hogan told the Telegraph. “And funnily enough, last year our yields were terrible, but the quality was better. This year, after a second year of dry weather, both the harvest and its quality have suffered.”
  • According to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, this year's barley harvest is expected to be the worst on record, as farmers struggle to get enough water on their land.
  • Clarkson’s Hawkstone beer brand, launched in 2021 using barley grown at Diddly Squat farm, saw sales rise to £44.9m in the year to March.
  • It comes as the pair celebrate their win at the National Television Awards this week, as Clarkson’s Farm secured the reality docuseries prize.
