The Kelantan State Health Department has taken stringent measures to ensure food safety at Ramadan bazaars, issuing a total of 80 compound notices to food traders, resulting in fines totaling RM8,700. Director Datuk Dr. Zaini Hussin emphasized that these penalties were imposed for various offenses, including improper attire and unhygienic clothing, both of which violate the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.

Dr. Zaini revealed that comprehensive inspections have been conducted across Ramadan bazaars in the state, covering a total of 1,027 stalls and 1,672 food operators. Impressively, 96.5 percent of the premises were found to be compliant with cleanliness standards, demonstrating a commendable commitment to food safety.

"The inspections extended to temporary vendors in all districts, aiming to guarantee the safety of food sold during Ramadan and prevent food and waterborne illnesses such as typhoid fever and food poisoning," Dr. Zaini explained during a press briefing following the launch of the Food Safety Walkabout Campaign at Lembah Sireh Ramadan Bazaar.

The campaign underscores the Health Department's proactive approach in ensuring public health and safety during the festive season. By conducting regular inspections and enforcing regulations, authorities aim to safeguard consumers from potential health risks associated with unhygienic food practices.

Ramadan bazaars are popular hubs where people gather to purchase a variety of food items, making it imperative for vendors to adhere to strict hygiene standards. The issuance of compound notices serves as a deterrent against negligence and underscores the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in food preparation and handling.

Through initiatives like the Food Safety Walkabout Campaign, health authorities not only raise awareness but also actively engage with food traders and the public to promote responsible food practices. Such efforts contribute to building trust and confidence among consumers, ensuring that they can enjoy Ramadan delicacies without compromising their health.

As the Ramadan season continues, the Kelantan State Health Department remains vigilant in its efforts to uphold food safety standards. By fostering collaboration between authorities, traders, and the public, they strive to create a safe and enjoyable culinary experience for everyone participating in Ramadan festivities.
