Climate, education and skilled workforce among 2027 Selangor Budget focus

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 10 - Climate change, environmental sustainability, education, skilled labor and technological transition are among the matters given attention in the preparation of the 2027 Selangor Budget.

The Dato' Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the matter was identified at the 2027 Selangor Budget engagement session which brought together key stakeholders and figures in the fields of economics and development.

Amirudin said that the dialogue session with the Executive Director of the Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya (UM) and the Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister's Office of Malaysia, Nurhisham Hussein, today provided the State Government with an opportunity to obtain views on current challenges and measures that need to be prioritised.

"We will pay attention to all sharing on the climate crisis, the development of the manufacturing sector and the preparation of human resources and it is still in line with the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2)," he said when met reporters at the event held at Le Meridien Hotel, here, today.

Amirudin also added that focus was also given to efforts to ensure that the technological transition could be implemented effectively, in addition to strengthening the education system and providing skilled manpower to meet the needs of the industry.

He said that environmental issues also need to be seen as a crisis that requires joint action since its impact crosses borders and cannot be addressed by the State or Federal Governments alone.

“This is not a question of increasing or reducing allocations but how we address this issue together because the Federal Government also has an important role,” he said.

Amirudin said the results of the engagement session would serve as a guide for the State Government in finalising the Selangor 2027 Budget which is scheduled to be presented next November.

Previously, the Selangor Government allocated RM3.23 billion through the Selangor 2026 Budget, an increase compared to RM3 billion the previous year.

With the theme “Champion Selangor, Prosperous People,” the Selangor Budget 2026 allocated RM1.86 billion or 57.6 per cent for operating expenses.

The budget also allocated RM1.37 billion or 42.4 per cent for development expenses.
