Climax K-drama ending explained

Climax concludes its central power struggle with a sense of closure, but not without leaving behind a trail of losses, difficult compromises and bittersweet wins. What begins as a rebellion against a corrupt system gradually turns into a test of survival. Curious to know whether Tae-seop and Sang-ah manage to bring down Lee Yang-mi? Here is the layered ending of the K-drama Climax, explained.

Directed by Lee Ji-won, the noir political thriller follows Bang Tae-seop, an ambitious prosecutor chasing power, and Chu Sang-ah, a fallen star fighting to reclaim her life, as they navigate a dangerous world controlled by Lee Yang-mi, the second wife of a powerful chaebol chairman and the mastermind behind WR Group’s entertainment and hotel empire. She manipulates celebrities, politicians and the media through blackmail, sex scandals and carefully orchestrated leaks to maintain her influence.

Climax features an ensemble cast including Ju Ji-hoon as Bang Tae-seop, Ha Ji-won as Chu Sang-ah, Nana as Hwang Jeong-won, Oh Jung-se as Kwon Jong-uk and Cha Joo-young as Lee Yang-mi.

 Spoilers ahead!

Climax K-drama ending explained: What happens to Jeong-won?

The emotional turning point in the finale of the Korean drama comes with the death of Hwang Jeong-won, a former convict turned private investigator who works for Yang-mi while secretly harbouring an emotional connection to Sang-ah.

After previously being manipulated into betraying Sang-ah under Yang-mi’s orders, Jeong-won ultimately chooses to protect her in the finale. He is fatally stabbed trying to save Sang-ah’s life from an attacker and dies in her arms before help can arrive.

Her death is not only tragic but also pivotal. Before dying, she leaves behind crucial evidence linking Yang-mi to a series of crimes, including the manipulation of key political players and murders. This becomes the weapon Tae-seop and Sang-ah use in their fight against Yang-mi.

Climax K-drama ending explained: What happens in the final moments?

Using the evidence Jeong-won left behind, Tae-seop confronts Yang-mi and forces her to step down from power temporarily. He later joins Sang-ah in their shared goal, rebuilding their positions in politics and entertainment.

Tae-seop rises within the political system, gaining influence and power. Meanwhile, Sang-ah establishes herself as a globally recognised actor. The two also continue collecting evidence against Yang-mi. Eventually, they expose her crimes, leading to her arrest. For a moment, it appears that the system has finally been challenged and that justice has been served.

However, the victory is fragile. Two years later, Yang-mi is pardoned and released, signalling that her influence was never truly erased. The system that protected her still exists, and she remains a looming threat.

By the end of the 2026 Disney+ K-drama, Tae-seop and Sang-ah reach the heights they always chased, but not without paying a price. They also present themselves publicly as a successful, united couple, yet their relationship remains rooted in ambition rather than love.

Before the credits roll, Yang-mi reaches out to Sang-ah after her release from prison, leaving her visibly shaken.
