Kota Kinabalu: A man in his 50s had a narrow escape when a tree came crashing down onto his Proton Saga during heavy rain in front of Kian Kok School (pic), around 3.30pm, Friday.

The man was on his way to pick up his children from the school when the tree landed directly on top of his car.

Residents urged the authorities to step up efforts to maintain and inspect ageing trees that could pose a safety hazard.
