Perlis cloud seeding operation raises Timah Tasoh Dam’s water level from 27.00m to 27.15m, its highest reading since January, JPS says.
KANGAR: The cloud seeding operation (OPA) in Perlis yesterday bore fruit, bringing rain to almost the entire state from last night until early this morning, and contributing to a rise in the water level at the Timah Tasoh Dam.
Perlis Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) director Amir Budiman Abdullah said the rain from 10 pm to 1 am helped raise the dam’s water level from 27.00 metres (m) to 27.15m.
He added that the reading was the highest water level recorded since January and was also within the normal range.
“The Kangar and Padang Besar parliamentary constituencies received more rainfall compared with Arau.
“There were four areas that experienced moderately heavy rain, namely Padang Besar, Ngulang, Kampung Bakau and Kuala Perlis. It only rained heavily in one area – Tebing Tinggi,” he said in a statement to Bernama today.
Amir Budiman said the rise in the dam’s water level was a positive development following the dry weather experienced previously.
Yesterday, Bernama quoted the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) as that saying the OPA focused on increasing rainfall over targeted areas and catchments to help boost and maintain water levels at major dams.
