Deputy PM Zahid announces cloud seeding operations in Johor, Kedah and Perak from tomorrow to Sunday to replenish dams affected by prolonged hot weather.

KUALA NERUS: Cloud seeding operations will be conducted in Johor, Kedah and Perak from tomorrow until Sunday. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the measure to address declining water levels at several dams.

He attributed the falling levels to prolonged hot weather across the country. Zahid, who is also chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, said early action was necessary despite dam levels being only at an alert stage.

“Although dam levels remain at the alert stage, early action is needed to prevent them from reaching critical levels,” he told reporters. He was speaking after the Rural and Regional Development Ministry’s 2026 retreat here.

The operations will target specific dams in each state on scheduled days. In Johor, seeding will occur at Upper Layang, Pulai 1 and Machap dams tomorrow, on Thursday and on Sunday.

Operations will shift to Kedah’s Pedu, Muda and Ahning dams on Friday and Saturday. The Bukit Merah Dam in Perak will also be targeted on those two days.
