Kota Kinabalu: CLOUDY skies did not dampen the patriotic spirit of some 50,000 people who gathered to celebrate the National Day and Sabah Day 2025.
Visitors began filling parking areas around the celebration venue along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen and nearby areas as early as 6am, drawn by the main attraction of the day, the parade featuring various contingents and vehicle processions.
This year’s march-past was enhanced by 169 contingents, comprising 126 marching units and 43 asset categories.
The marching contingents included primary and secondary schools, public and private higher education institutions, non-governmental organisations, Sabah ethnic associations, private and commercial groups, as well as government departments in both formal uniforms and casual attire.
Among the most anticipated highlights were the firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department, appearances by Unduk Ngadau aboard the Kota Kinabalu Hop-On Hop-Off vehicles and the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy by the Malaysian Information Department.
The annual event was graced by Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman and his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor with his wife Datin Seri Juliah Salag, the Sabah Cabinet and other invited guests.
Entertainment included a special Silent Drill performance and cultural presentations themed “Malaysia Madani: Caring for the People” by artists from the Sabah Cultural Board.
The celebration ended at about 10.30am with the Main Guard of Honour from the Third Battalion Royal Malay Regiment, consisting of three officers and 103 other ranks.
